Portrait 019 : Joseph Mah

19th Portrait Album, Joseph Mah. He is a athletic person as you can see based on his ripped body. Also is my first time photographing people topless to show off their body and do a manly, sexy plus sporty theme. I've requested him to do a few jump shots then a few normal standing shots and mostly all have to make his scarf flying by me or by himself. I use remote control to snap when I at the position to help him throw the scarf up to make the scarf fly/float/wave in a way I hope it can be.

The photoshoot session is taken in my small room with my own DIY fluorescent lights set up and brown paper stick to wall set up. And then pretty much post production works were done with photoshop.

Cousin Wedding

Its my third time being not the main photographer of the wedding event as I still not upgrading my flash lite until recently I have upgraded! But have not try using the flash lite yet. Anyway, I only posting a few photos of my cousin's wedding which I think is nice among the other photos and still want to keep certain photos remain private.

Male Portrait - Elvin

This is a test portrait I did for Elvin in year 2012 after so long I have not try photograph any man or guys. I feel lucky to be able to experiment capturing the water dripping over the face scene like those facial wash commercial.

 

 And here's Jason who helped me to do the water dripping and the lighting test shots. =)

Glitters

The last album and last theme of the same day photoshoot, total of five different looks photographed on the same day, have we broke a record for ourselves? I mean makeup artists, model and me. Its my first time doing 5 different looks and props in a row, happy!

But there's down side of taking photos too long from model's perspective, especially the lighting I used to set up an indoor photoshoot is not flash, but fluorescent lights which is a pain to the eyes for staring long hours which will be better if I can afford flash lite which can be softer light when is not shooting and only brighten with flash once I snap pictures. Anyhow, model can stay away from lights when no shooting to rest her eyes. 

After hours of a long day photo shoot, I have decided to switch off one sharp light standee the last 2 themes photoshoot as the model eyes were starting to get tired and tearing. So the side effects on the photos will be, darker and harder to capture without noise or more noise will be capture. At this fifth shoot, we have reached the night time around 7pm - 8pm.  To flash back the memories of that day, it really wasn't a good savvy idea as we starve or have late meals and kind of exhausting long day work for model and makeup artists. I wasn't having a really energetic spirit to began either because the day before I was burning midnight oil to add one more prop into the White Queen theme photoshoot which was the studs with feathers shoulder wear. I remember my face is the ugliest as sleepless gives you dark eyed circles and bad face day. Ya, when I am serious rushing work as a photographer and artist, I could care less how I look at work. On the opposite side, if I am the modelling for the photo shoot day, I will be pay more effort to sleep early, eat healthy to look good and perform well. 

The butterfly concept was initially just wanting to try do something which I don't normally do which is just capture nice photos. Then on second thought, butterflies are formed from caterpillars in metamorphosis process and butterflies have short life once they became butterflies. So butterflies represent, limited beauty of youth where also is a age where you get to shine, climb the sloppy road to the uphill before downhill. White also represent the purest time is during youth.Thus, I've started to put my imaginary thoughts and my art skill together with my photography as I thought it will be outstanding to convert what I can draw on a canvas into reality and captured by me. I know it sounded very cosplay at the same time. So I have to be very careful not to over cross the line between fashion and cosplay, but still remain the recycle green concept by handmaking the props or accessories. Which it also saves a lot of money to do something big to me.

The White Queen

Just want to say, "wohoo!" I finally finish editing the total 5 albums photos that shot on the same day with different concepts. But editing the photos from starting the first look until here, my patience is really being tested badly. I almost felt hard to be aspiring and inspired for continuing the editing and gettings the photos to be on the right colour mood or feel. To be honest, there are some photos in this White Queen album aren't fully satisfied by me. And have the feeling of wanting to re-edit but also time is running out and I did set a deadline to complete for myself. Really want to give a big thank you to my sister as my model, my friend who helped me on the makeup and hairstyle, Grace Wong and her partner, Genneve Tai. Also thank them for giving a place to photograph as well. Without them, this outcome will be incomplete. I spent two months on handmaking all the props to match the theme and dress and finally get to production and post-production stages. I feel a big comfort and great achievement for making my visions came true, made my life felt meaningful for doing what I love and closer to my dream and goal.

Somewhere out there

Somewhere out there, in the middle of nowhere, where the sun is not alone but like the stars that many and the land is a hot desert place. Concept and the mood I decided to bring out is a warm desert cultural traditional feel like Africans in rural area but still add in fashion element into it with the lion hair and white eye shadow, eye brows and eye lashes.

Before this I was struggling find the right colour mood to adjust the colours and feel right and different from the previous posts I did which they all were shot on the same day and  same place.

Below images are my first and second attempts on adjust the colour palette.

A date with the night

"Dreaming to have a starry date with the beautiful night where the moon is softly glowing and the stars blended together from sky to earth. I am dating with the night."

This is the second look I photographed on the same day with the previous post. I like the outcome but I kind of regret the amount of photos were taken and the selected photos which I love.

The hat is eventually from bouquet flower decoration and the necklace are just chained different sizes of ring files. Good idea to full off a romantic classy evening look for photo shoot? 

Red Net

Another new album is up o post now. Hope you all enjoy this series of photos. More photos will be updated soon once I am done with post production. You may question why I use the same model which is Eva Lim, my sister. First is because, being her brother for years and seen her tried few modelling photo shoots with other photographers before, I believe I know her well, and I think she is a good model who is willing to communicate or discuss with photographer and have her input to blend with mine and yet she did fulfilled the basic requirements of a model. Second, because I am working for my own art projects, I am not having paid nor really my own business yet. So I know its hard to find models who have the face features I want and willing to work with me without getting paid, I only can afford by paying their meals on the photoshoot day and also have the good attitude to work with when my commanding power isn't that strong and persuasive at times.

Let go Vogue!

Let's go Vogue. work it baby!

Eventually, this was taken on the same day as the last 2 posts I posted.I separated them into 3 album because she had 3 looks to be shot on that day firstly and second reason is because I found there's 3 different look and feel which I end up decided to separate them into 3 albums. One is feminine pastel pink, one is the slightly retro colour mood but still remain some vibrant in it which to me I will call it the normal ones; lastly is because we found this background which hit me that this can be so fashion editorial together with the model.  So, wala, vogue! 

Vogue idea eventually I wasn't really want to imitate like the Vogue Magazine, but instead of the definition of "Vogue" which means something popular, something in fashion, popular style, fashionable.  Although I know I may not be right or very updated to fashion, but I know this is looking stylish.

Lake Garden

This was taken  two months back I think. It is my first time invited by Mei Fern-Chong to have a group photoshoot with her and Eva Lim as our model. Makeup was done by Sylvia Yong and Eva wore a wig for the first time photoshoot. The photos taken in the Lake Garden, Kuala Lumpur.

We were shooting around the late morning till 3pm late afternoon if not mistaken, we were all sweaty, sun tanned or burned, dehydrated after the photoshoot. It was my very fresh start after a long time I stopped taking portraits of people with theme or with concept. 

Portrait 010: Jeremy Song

This eventually was taken few months back, quite long ago. I have handmade a huge glasses for my friend and at the same day he wanted me to photograph him. So, I snapped photos of him nearby Petaling Street in KL city. We were walking on the street and found a very well decorated, nice chill out cafe restaurant. Thus, we began to take photos there.

Before I post the photos here, I would like to say these photos are just taken for personal usage and not for any commercial or other purposes. No copyright infringement intentded. I wish if the restaurant manager sees this won't sue me.

Jeremy did a lot of poses for this photoshoot as we just playing around taking funny photos.

Updating to the readers/ viewers although this is not completed yet. 

Still got some under editing but due to new semester started , ya still a student. This project has been a very very long kept almost a year from the very rough sketch of the design of the mask till today. It was hard for me to find a model and measure the head well. But problems come in when i took this project a little too long for finding makeup artist and hair stylist who willing to do this for free, for art and for port folio only and ended up i lost booking the actual model with the correct size of the face to fits the mask. As a student and unknown person like me, how can i afford a makeup artist or hairstylist by paying them? Luckily, there's generous friends, or kind people still can be found. 

So, I ended up finding my own sister to do the photoshoot.

Free individual outdoor/indoor photoshoot session by me, Jason Lim starting from October.  Every month I will be taking 2 person individual photoshoots. 

People who are interested and have their own idea or theme of the photoshoot must self provide accessories, clothes and make up.

Conceptual portrait photoshoots and location suggested by you must provide self provide transport or map guidelines to photographer unless is within Cyberjaya, Puchong, Sunway, Old Klang Road and Bukit Jalil.

Volunteers who willing to be photographed with photographer's own concept or idea, some accessories may be contributed by photographer.

It will be half day photoshoot session. 

Chosen photos will be delivered to you after 7 working days (around 30-40 photos will be chosen ones.)
